Africa volleyball club championship: Al Ahly, Pipelines off to a flying start

Al Ahly started their 2017 women’s African volleyball club championship campaign with a 3-1 (25-14, 25- 21, 18-25, 25-16) victory against 5 time winners Kenya Prisons on a Day 2 showdown of the competition’s Pool B match at MZALI hall on Friday.

Pool B also saw a big win for emerging Tunisian side Marsa, who thrashed Algeria’s Bejaia 3-0 (25-13, 25- 22, 25-17). Favourites Pipelines of Kenya hammered APR 3-0 (26-24, 25- 14, 25- 12) in Pool C to put themselves well on course towards the title they’ve won 7 times before. Algerian GSP Club realised their first victory against Bafia of Cameroon in pool D winning 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-17).

Tunisia’s Sfaxien dominated their match against ARSU (Seychelles) in pool D winning in straight sets of (25-15, 25-16, 25-22), while Egypt’s Shams won big against Cameroon’s FAP 3-0 (25-9, 25-7, 25-12).

In the second Pool A match, INJS of Cameroun eased past Ivory Coast’s Asec Mimosas 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-22), a Pool that started with a big Day 1 victory for hosts Carthage against Uganda’s Ndejje 3-0.
